Fields' future with the Jets is uncertain, especially after signing a two-year, $40 million contract in the offseason. If the team decides to cut him, they would have to absorb $22 million in dead salary cap charges. Fields, who started 9 games this season, has struggled to find consistency as the Jets' starter, throwing for 1,259 yards with 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception. He was benched in favor of Taylor last month and has been serving as his backup since. The Jets have signed Hendon Hooker to the practice squad, a move that may impact Fields' future with the team. Coach Aaron Glenn has expressed optimism about the team's young players, including rookie tight end Mason Taylor, who is ruled out for Sunday's game with a neck injury. Fields remains optimistic about his return and the possibility of playing again before the end of the season. 'Of course, I'd like to play again,' he said. 'I'll just keep getting better as a quarterback and continue to improve.'
