In a crucial Serie A matchup, Juventus kept their Scudetto hopes alive with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over AS Roma at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday. Francisco Conceicao and Lois Openda scored for the home side, while Tommaso Baldanzi replied for the visitors. The win saw Juventus move back into contention, sitting just a point behind Roma in the standings. Roma, who had been aiming to capitalize on the absence of the top three teams at the Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, were left to rue missed opportunities. One such instance came when Paulo Dybala, a former Juventus player, failed to convert a promising chance in the first half. Juventus, however, capitalized on their chances, with Conceicao scoring the opener just before halftime with a well-placed shot into the far bottom corner. The hosts nearly doubled their lead in the second half, but Kenan Yildiz's effort from a wide angle went past the post. Nevertheless, Juventus found their second goal with 20 minutes remaining, as Weston McKennie's header was followed by a clever finish from Openda. Roma pulled one back five minutes later, thanks to Baldanzi's pounced effort after a parried shot by Michele Di Gregorio. Despite the loss, Roma remain fourth in the standings on 30 points, while Juventus move up to fifth.
