The Seattle Mariners have made a bold move by signing young shortstop Colt Emerson to an 8-year, $95 million contract. Emerson, 20, has not played a single game in Major League Baseball, but has impressed in the minor leagues with a batting line of .288/.398/.445 and 23 home runs in 227 games.

The deal, which includes an option for a ninth year and bonus clauses, could increase the total value to over $130 million. Emerson also has a full no-trade clause, giving him strong control and security despite his lack of MLB experience.

This is the biggest contract ever given to a player without MLB experience, breaking the previous record held by Jackson Chourio of the Milwaukee Brewers. Emerson was picked 22nd overall in the 2023 MLB Draft and has been playing in the minor leagues, where he has performed well at multiple levels.
