In a decisive victory, Texas State's Brad Jackson led the team to a 41-10 win over Rice in the Armed Forces Bowl on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. Jackson's impressive performance included 173 passing yards and four touchdowns. He completed 17 of 24 passes and also rushed for 52 yards and a score, while Lincoln Pare added 106 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Bobcats outgained the Owls 436-196, showcasing their dominance. Rice, which secured a bowl bid after several other schools declined, struggled to find its footing. The team used three different quarterbacks in an attempt to spark the offense, but ultimately fell short. Patrick Crayton Jr. threw for 70 yards and a score, but also had an interception, while Lucas Scheerhorn and Quinton Jackson had limited success. The Owls managed to stay within striking distance at halftime, trailing 10-7. However, Texas State took control of the game in the second half, with Jackson's 69-yard touchdown pass to Beau Sparks just 53 seconds into the third quarter. The Bobcats continued to add to their lead, with Pare's 63-yard scoring run and Jackson's 14-yard touchdown pass to Chris Dawn Jr. securing the win. The final score was capped off with Enock Gota's 28-yard field goal for Rice, but the Owls were unable to mount a significant comeback. Texas State's victory marked their fourth consecutive win, solidifying their momentum heading into the new season.
