In a convincing display, No. 1-ranked UConn Huskies outplayed No. 11 Iowa 90-64 in the Women's Champions Classic. Azzi Fudd led the charge with 27 points, while sophomore sensation Sarah Strong added 23 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Strong's impressive performance was particularly notable in the first half, where she scored 20 points and five steals to give her team a 42-31 lead. Strong's dominance extended into the second half, where she helped UConn maintain their advantage with a 10-2 run that gave them a 35-20 lead. Iowa managed to get within nine points, but Fudd took over in the second half, scoring 21 of her 27 points to seal the win. The Huskies' victory marked their fourth win over a ranked team this season, following victories over No. 5 Michigan, No. 16 Louisville, and No. 19 Southern California. UConn has two ranked games left on their schedule after the New Year, against No. 17 Tennessee and No. 20 Notre Dame. In contrast, Iowa struggled to contain the Huskies' offense, despite a strong effort from Hannah Stuelke (17 points) and Chazadi Wright (16 points). The Hawkeyes also suffered a setback when guard Kylie Feuerbach suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter and did not return. The win propels UConn forward as they prepare to face Butler on December 28, while Iowa will host Penn State on the same day.
