R Vaishali has made a stunning comeback in the Candidates tournament, securing a win against Tan Zhongyi and taking the second spot.
The 24-year-old Indian was gifted an unexpected win after Tan made an inexplicable blunder, allowing Vaishali to devour Black's bishop and rook in the next couple of moves.
Vaishali, who was worse for most of the game, found a glimmer of hope after Tan played 27.Ne4 and went on to win the game.
With this win, Vaishali is now just half-a-point behind leader Anna Muzychuk and will look to improve her game quality in the remaining games.
In the Open section, Anish Giri managed to stop Javokhir Sindarov's winning run, and their game ended in a 85-move draw.
The tournament heads into its home stretch post Monday's rest day, with Sindarov leading the pack with six points out of seven.
