The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has approved an allocation of ₹3.50 crore for the financial year 2026–27 to implement welfare and development projects for the Reang (Bru) community in Tripura.
The funding has been sanctioned under Article 275(1) of the Constitution through the Project Appraisal Committee (PAC), in coordination with the Tripura Rural and Tribal Development and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (TRP & PTG) departments.
Announcing the approval, Tripura Cooperation, TRP & PTG and Minority Affairs Minister Sukla Charan Noatia said the allocation would support vital welfare initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the Reang community.
The approved projects will focus on strengthening livelihoods and income opportunities, empowering traditional weavers, preserving the community’s cultural heritage and promoting sustainable infrastructure. Initiatives also include the adoption of green energy and programmes aimed at strengthening cultural identity and pride among the Reang people.
The financial assistance is expected to contribute to sustainable development in Reang-inhabited areas while supporting traditional skills and community-based economic activities.
The initiative reflects continued efforts by the Government of India and the Tripura government to promote inclusive development and improve livelihood opportunities for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in the state.
