The Haora Riverfront Development Project, a major urban beautification and public-space initiative in Agartala, was formally inaugurated on Wednesday.
The project, developed under the Smart City Mission at an estimated cost of around ₹96 crore, stretches from Steel Bridge to Dashamighat along the Haora River.
The initiative aims to preserve the river while creating a vibrant, citizen-friendly public space in the heart of the city.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Mayor Dipak Majumder, Kiran Gitte and other dignitaries were present at the inauguration ceremony, which was held in a festive atmosphere.
The Haora River is closely associated with the heritage, civilization and history of Agartala. The riverfront project seeks to strengthen this connection by combining environmental preservation with modern urban amenities.
The newly developed facility includes a range of recreational and leisure facilities designed to meet the needs of people across different age groups. Children, young people, families and senior citizens can use the space for recreation and relaxation.
The project is expected to add a new dimension to Agartala's urban landscape while encouraging greater public engagement with the city's natural environment. Officials said the initiative reflects efforts to make Agartala more attractive, accessible and people-friendly.
