Anthony Joshua’s driver charged after deadly crash in Nigeria
A 46-year-old driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash that injured heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and killed two of his friends in Nigeria. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where the vehicle carrying Joshua, Sina Ghami, and Latif "Latz" Ayodele collided with a stationary truck.
Kayode, who was released from the hospital on Thursday, has been remanded in custody pending the fulfillment of his bail condition of 5 million naira. He faces four charges, including driving without due care, driving without a valid license, and dangerous driving causing death.
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday after sustaining minor injuries in the crash. He has family roots in Nigeria and holds Nigerian nationality. The boxer's promoter, Matchroom Boxing, has confirmed that Joshua will remain in the country.
The case has been adjourned to January 20 for trial, sparking concerns over road safety in Nigeria. The incident has raised questions about the need for improved infrastructure and stricter regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
