Asthma Attack Death in Henry County, Georgia: Family Accuses EMS of Negligence
Family alleges Henry County EMS negligence after 32-year-old Charles Evans died from an asthma attack, citing failed equipment and improper handling.
A 32-year-old Atlanta man's tragic death has sparked a heated controversy in Henry County, Georgia. Charles Evans passed away on December 4 after suffering a severe asthma attack at his sister's home. The family alleges that Henry County Emergency Management Service (EMS) responders failed to provide life-saving medication, which could have saved his life.
According to a press release from attorney Michael D. Harper, the EMS team tried to administer medication using a bag-valve, but the equipment allegedly malfunctioned. Additionally, the responders reportedly carried Evans by his wrists and ankles, causing his head to fall back while he was struggling to breathe. The family also claims that the EMS team did not attempt to intubate Evans, a procedure that could have stabilized his airway.
Evans went into cardiac arrest during the ambulance ride to Piedmont Henry Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead shortly after arrival. The family held a press conference on December 9, calling for accountability and transparency from the Henry County EMS. While it is unclear if a lawsuit has been filed, the incident has raised serious concerns about the quality of emergency services in the area.
