A 29-year-old Hindu man was beaten to death by a mob in Bangladesh's Rajbari district on Wednesday night, sparking concerns over the country's rising unrest. Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, was allegedly part of a group that demanded extortion money from a villager, prompting a violent reaction from locals. According to police, Mondal's associates managed to escape, but he was caught and beaten by the mob, suffering fatal injuries. The incident highlights the country's deep-seated issues with crime and communal tensions. Mondal, who had multiple cases pending against him, including a murder charge, was reportedly involved in a 'terror outfit' that operated in the area, intimidating and extorting locals. The Bangladesh government has vowed to take swift action in the case, with at least 10 arrests made so far. However, the recent string of violent incidents, including the lynching of another Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, last week, raises concerns over the country's ability to maintain law and order. The unrest in parts of Bangladesh comes amid a backdrop of rising tensions, following the killing of a prominent student leader, Osman Hadi, in December. As the country struggles to cope with the aftermath, the government's response will be closely watched by the international community.
