The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is facing another crisis after allegations surfaced that its news program, Newsnight, selectively edited footage of a speech by former U.S. President Donald Trump in a report broadcast in June 2022. This latest controversy comes on the heels of a $1 billion lawsuit threat from Trump over the BBC's Panorama documentary, which edited a Trump speech to suggest he had called for violence on January 6, 2021. The Telegraph newspaper reported that the Newsnight edit was similar to the Panorama version, sparking an investigation by the BBC. A spokesperson for the BBC stated that the organization 'holds itself to the highest editorial standards' and is looking into the matter. This development adds to the BBC's ongoing crisis, which saw two senior leaders resign over accusations of bias in the Panorama documentary. The BBC has yet to respond to Trump's demands, including a retraction of the documentary, an apology, and compensation for reputational and financial harm.
