Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed that the two gunmen involved in the Bondi Beach attack appear to have acted independently, with no evidence of a larger extremist network. 'There’s no evidence of collusion, no evidence that these people were part of a cell,' Albanese said, confirming that the attackers were motivated by 'extremist ideology.' Authorities have found improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the attackers’ car, but are not investigating a third person's involvement. The younger shooter, Naveed Akram, was not on any counter-terrorism watchlist, despite a 2019 investigation into his connections to individuals later jailed for their crimes. Following the attack, the government has pledged to strengthen gun control measures, with New South Wales and Western Australia leading the effort. The federal government will also tighten customs restrictions on firearms and other weapons-related imports. As the investigation continues, 27 people remain hospitalized, with around a dozen in critical condition.
