California Bomb Plot Foiled: Four Arrested Ahead of New Year's Eve
The FBI has charged four members of the Turtle Island Liberation Front with conspiracy in a New Year’s Eve bombing plot.
In a major security breakthrough, the FBI has charged four individuals in connection with an alleged New Year's Eve bombing plot targeting multiple locations across Southern California. The suspects, identified as Audrey Carroll, Zachary Page, Dante Gaffield, and Tina Lai, are members of the anti-capitalist and anti-government group Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF). Authorities claim the group was preparing to detonate complex pipe bombs at five locations simultaneously at midnight on December 31.
According to court documents, the plot, codenamed 'Operation Midnight Sun,' involved placing backpacks containing improvised explosive devices at various sites. The handwritten plan outlined the details of the alleged attack, including instructions on how to manufacture the devices and avoid leaving evidence. Investigators recovered bomb-making materials, including PVC pipes, potassium nitrate, and fuse components, from a desert campsite in Lucerne Valley, near Twentynine Palms, California.
The four defendants, who were arrested on Friday in the Mojave Desert, have been charged with conspiracy and possession of an unregistered destructive device. First Assistant US Attorney Bill Essayli confirmed that additional charges are expected as investigators continue to review the evidence. Authorities believe they have arrested all individuals directly involved in the alleged plot.
The foiled bombing plot has raised concerns about potential threats to public safety, especially during major events like New Year's Eve. The FBI has praised the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in preventing a potentially catastrophic attack.
