A dense fog advisory has been issued for central California, affecting over two million people and posing a high transportation risk. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned commuters and travelers to exercise extreme caution, particularly on critical corridors like Interstate 5, State Route 99, and State Route 198. The affected areas include Bakersfield, Fresno, and surrounding communities in the San Joaquin Valley. According to the NWS, low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous, with fog reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less. To stay safe, the NWS recommends slowing down, using low-beam headlights, and leaving plenty of distance between vehicles. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution, especially on I-5, SR-99, SR-152, and SR-198. If visibility is near zero, it's best to pull over to a safe location and turn on hazard lights. The dense fog advisory is in effect until 11 am Pacific time, and residents are urged to check the latest updates before traveling. By taking necessary precautions, drivers can minimize the risks associated with driving in dense fog conditions.
