In a rare public address, Dan Rogers, the head of Canada's domestic spy agency, revealed that his team has thwarted potentially deadly threats from Iran targeting individuals deemed enemies of the regime. Rogers made the comments during the Canadian Security Intelligence Service's annual update on security challenges facing the country. The agency's efforts have protected Canada-based critics of Iran, a move that underscores the country's strained relations with Tehran. Canada severed diplomatic ties with Iran in 2012, and last year, it listed Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. Rogers also highlighted the agency's success in blocking Russia's attempts to acquire Canadian goods and technologies through illicit procurement networks. He stated that CSIS informed several Canadian companies about the involvement of Russian agents in Europe-based front companies, prompting them to take immediate action to deny the Russians. The comments come as Canada remains a vocal critic of Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Rogers' speech marks a rare public appearance by a CSIS director, shedding light on the agency's efforts to counter threats from foreign adversaries.
