A shocking incident unfolded in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday as a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent opened fire, leaving two people injured. The shooting occurred near East Burnside and 141st Avenue around 2:24 p.m., with responding officers finding a male and female with apparent gunshot wounds. The FBI is leading the investigation, which comes just a day after a separate incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot a 37-year-old woman during an anti-ICE demonstration. However, there is no indication that the two incidents are related. Chief Bob Day of the Portland Police Bureau has urged the community to remain calm, acknowledging the heightened emotions following the Minneapolis shooting. 'We are still in the early stages of this incident,' he said. 'We understand the tension many are feeling, but I am asking the community to remain calm as we work to learn more.' According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the CBP agent involved in the shooting claimed to have feared for his life and safety, firing defensive shots after a driver fled the scene with a passenger. The DHS also alleged that one of the victims has ties to the Venezuelan Tren De Aragua gang. East Burnside Street remains closed westbound between Northeast 145th Avenue and Northeast 148th Avenue as police continue to investigate the incident. The condition of the two injured individuals remains unclear, and the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
