Chilling Bodycam Footage Reveals Moment Wanted Killer Luigi Mangione Was Busted at Pennsylvania McDonald's
Bodycam footage reveals the moment cops confronted UnitedHealthcare CEO's alleged killer Luigi Mangione at a McDonald’s before he was taken into custody.
A shocking bodycam video has been released, showing the moment Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was confronted by police at a McDonald's restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The footage, recorded on December 9, 2024, reveals the tense encounter between Mangione and Officer Joseph Detwiler, who asked the Ivy League graduate to remove his face mask and reveal his identity.
According to the video, Mangione, who was sitting at a corner table inside the restaurant, initially lied about his name, claiming to be Mark Rosario. However, after being asked to show his face, Mangione complied, but his alibi was soon exposed.
The video, which was released as part of a Manhattan proceeding in the case, shows Detwiler approaching Mangione and telling him that a caller had reported him as suspicious. Mangione replied with a vague apology, but it was not enough to convince the officer.
The footage was recorded on Officer Tyler Frye's bodycam and was released on the one-year anniversary of Mangione's arrest. Mangione was taken into custody after an employee at the McDonald's reported him to the police. At the time, a massive manhunt was underway, and the police had sought the public's help in identifying the suspect.
Mangione is facing a slew of charges, including murder and gun possession, in connection with the shooting death of Thompson on a sidewalk in Midtown. The video of the police encounter was viewed in Manhattan court last week before it was released to the public.
