A harrowing incident on the Charlotte Area Transit System's Blue Line light rail has left one man in critical condition. Kenyon Dobie, who attempted to intervene during a verbal altercation on Friday, December 5, was severely injured after being stabbed with a large knife. The suspect, identified as Oscar Solarzano, 33, a Honduran immigrant in the US illegally, was arrested near the Parkwood Station in Noda. According to court documents, the altercation stemmed from Solarzano's refusal to stop drinking on the train, prompting a confrontation with another passenger. The situation escalated, resulting in the stabbing. Solarzano, who was banned from a different light rail system in October for carrying a knife, displayed signs of intoxication at the time of his arrest, including slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. Dobie, who suffered significant injuries, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover his ongoing medical expenses. The initial target of $25,000 has been far surpassed, with over $40,000 raised to date. As Dobie continues to recover, the community has rallied around him, demonstrating the resilience and compassion that defines the city of Charlotte.
