Cairo - The United Nations migration agency has sounded the alarm over humanitarian efforts in Sudan's war-torn North Darfur region, warning that operations are on the verge of collapse due to lack of funding and insecurity. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that despite the rising need, humanitarian operations are facing significant challenges, including empty warehouses, insecure aid convoys, and restricted access to affected areas. The situation in North Darfur remains volatile following the recent takeover by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with thousands of people forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in overcrowded displacement camps. Aid groups report that malnutrition rates among children have reached staggering levels, with over 70% of those under 5 experiencing acute malnutrition. The IOM has appealed for immediate funding to ease the humanitarian impact of the conflict, which has already displaced 12 million people and killed at least 40,000. Global efforts to reach a ceasefire and avert a humanitarian disaster in Sudan are underway, with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressing support for Sudan's armed forces and calling for a commitment to the peace plan announced in September. As the situation in Darfur continues to deteriorate, the UN agency warns of an even greater catastrophe if its appeal goes unheeded. The international community is urged to provide urgent support to prevent a complete collapse of humanitarian efforts in the region.
