The International Space Station (ISS) recently shared stunning visuals of urban areas lit up at night, showcasing Delhi's remarkable brightness. The national capital's intricate pattern of night lights can be seen from space, making it the second-largest metropolitan area in the world after Tokyo, with a population of approximately 34.67 million people. According to the ISS, the nighttime view from the space station, taken at around 10:54 pm local time, reveals the city split by the Yamuna River, with the Indira Gandhi International Airport visible near the right center. The airport is one of the busiest aviation hubs in South Asia. The ISS also shared photos of Singapore and Tokyo, highlighting the most luminous urban centers seen from the space station at night. Cities like Delhi, Singapore, Tokyo, and São Paulo are notable for their brightness. On social media, people reacted to the post, with some commenting on Delhi's pollution and others expressing pride and admiration for their city. While some questioned how Delhi's pollution could be so visible from space, others pointed out their own neighborhoods on the maps. The ISS, which has been continuously occupied since November 2, 2025, marked a historic milestone. The space station was designed between 1984 and 1993, with construction taking place in the US, Canada, Japan, and Europe.
