The Washington National Cathedral will host a star-studded funeral for former Vice President Dick Cheney on November 20, as the nation bids farewell to a polarizing figure. George W. Bush, Cheney's former boss, will deliver a eulogy to celebrate his legacy, which was marked by both influence and controversy. Cheney, 84, passed away due to complications from pneumonia and cardiovascular disease. During his tenure as vice president from 2001 to 2009, he was a key figure in the 2003 invasion of Iraq and a fierce advocate for presidential authority. A range of dignitaries, including Liz Cheney, Dick's daughter and former press secretary, and Pete Williams, a close colleague from the Bush era, will also pay tribute to the late politician. The Rev. Randolph Marshall Hollerith, dean of the Washington National Cathedral, and Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor of medicine, will also speak at the service. However, there is no official word yet on whether the Trump administration, including President Donald Trump, will attend the funeral. The Trump administration has not responded to inquiries about attendance as of November 17. Interestingly, Cheney had a public falling out with Trump after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot and went on to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Notably, other former presidents like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden have also not confirmed their attendance at the funeral. The ceremony will take place at the Washington National Cathedral on November 20.
