A Los Angeles federal judge has sentenced Dr. Salvador Plasencia to 2.5 years in prison for supplying ketamine to 'Friends' star Matthew Perry in the weeks leading up to his death. While Plasencia did not provide the lethal dose, Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett emphasized that his actions contributed to Perry's downward spiral. The judge noted that Plasencia exploited Perry's addiction for financial gain, despite the actor's struggles with substance abuse for decades. In a heartfelt statement, Perry's family described him as a loving and supportive figure who had been a pillar of strength for them. However, they also expressed their pain and disappointment at Plasencia's actions, which they believe ultimately led to Perry's tragic death. Plasencia, 44, was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing, as his mother broke down in tears in the courtroom. He had previously admitted to taking advantage of Perry's addiction and referred to him in texts as a 'moron' who could be exploited for money. Plasencia pleaded guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine in July, as part of a deal that dropped five other charges. The remaining four defendants in the case will face sentencing in the coming months. This sentence marks a significant milestone in the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Perry's death, which occurred in 2023 at the age of 54.
