Fact-Checked: Laura Loomer's Resurfaced Post Claiming Rob Reiner Wanted Trump in Prison
After the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner, Laura Loomer has shared a screenshot of what appears to be an X post the famed director shared about Donald Trump.
A screenshot of a post supposedly shared by director Rob Reiner has resurfaced on social media, with Laura Loomer claiming it proves Reiner wanted President Trump to go to prison. However, a fact-check reveals the post is fabricated.
According to Reuters, the post was not shared by Reiner on X, despite its appearance of being from his official account. An advanced search of Reiner's X account confirmed this, and the post was not viewable via archived versions of his account saved on January 20, 2023.
In reality, Reiner did share a post on the same date and time, calling for Trump's indictment for leading a deadly insurrection. The fabricated post seems to have been altered from this authentic tweet.
Loomer's post sparked controversy, as Trump is currently facing criticism for his remarks about Reiner's death. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Reiner had died due to 'Trump Derangement Syndrome,' a condition he claimed was a 'mind crippling disease.'
Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their Brentwood home, and their son, Nick, has been arrested and charged with their murders. He is currently being held in administrative segregation and on suicide watch at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
Reiner was a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, but also a passionate advocate for liberal causes and children's health and education. His activism led to the creation of First 5 California, a program aimed at supporting children's health and education.
The resurfaced post is a clear example of misinformation being spread on social media, and it is essential to verify information before sharing it to prevent the spread of false narratives.
