A devastating pedestrian crash on Route 495 in New Jersey has caused massive traffic congestion near the Lincoln Tunnel. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning on the westbound lane of Kennedy Boulevard in Union City. As a result, traffic exiting the Lincoln Tunnel was diverted onto local streets, exacerbating delays. Inbound traffic to New York City was severely congested, stretching back to Route 3 near the Meadowlands due to rubbernecking. The express bus lane closure further intensified the situation, causing buses to mix with regular traffic. Commuters have been advised to consider the George Washington Bridge as an alternative route. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. In related news, the first snow of the season in northern New Jersey brought an unexpected traffic nightmare. The snowfall, which accumulated up to 1.4 inches in Sussex, caused hazardous road conditions. Route 23 was significantly affected by snow and black ice, leading to multiple closures. Route 206 was shut down near Stokes State Forest, and sections of Route 23 were closed in Stockholm and West Milford. Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia was among those affected by the traffic and informed the DOT commissioner about the conditions. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes.
