Rescue efforts are underway in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, where catastrophic floods and landslides have claimed over 1,200 lives and left more than 800 people missing. The disaster, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, has inundated vast areas, stranding thousands and leaving many clinging to rooftops for help. In Indonesia, the hardest-hit nation, rescuers are facing significant challenges in accessing remote villages in Sumatra island, where roads have been washed out and bridges have collapsed. Military-led rescue teams in Sri Lanka are also struggling to reach devastated areas, where 352 people remain missing. Meanwhile, in southern Thailand, cleanup efforts are underway after massive floods affected over 1.5 million households and 3.9 million people. As rescue operations continue, authorities warn that conditions could worsen with more rain forecast in the coming days. In Sri Lanka, residents are struggling to access clean water, relying on bottled water collected from natural springs. In Thailand, authorities are working to restore infrastructure, including water and electricity, and have set up public kitchens to provide freshly cooked food to affected residents. The death toll stands at 1,230, with 659 confirmed dead in Indonesia, 390 in Sri Lanka, and 181 in Thailand. The National Disaster Management Agency in Indonesia reports that at least 475 people remain missing, while the Disaster Management Center in Sri Lanka says 352 people are still unaccounted for. The Thai government has pledged to distribute compensation payments to affected residents, with the first batch of 239 million baht set to be distributed to 26,000 people.
