Florida College Student Busted for Bringing 1,500 Rounds of Ammo and a Semi-Automatic Rifle to Dorm
Constantine Demetriades, 21, has been accused of ordering 1,500 rounds of ammunition to his dorm room. Cops found a semi-automatic rifle stashed under his bed.
A 21-year-old senior at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, has been arrested and barred from campus after police discovered a stash of 1,500 rounds of ammunition and a semi-automatic rifle in his dorm room. Constantine Demetriades, who admitted to knowing the college's weapons policy, had brought the rifle to campus after purchasing and registering it in New Jersey over Thanksgiving break.
Demetriades, who claimed to have no ill intentions, told authorities he "likes to shoot as a hobby" and generally keeps the firearm at a friend's home off campus. However, he allegedly admitted to bringing the gun to campus only once before, and was unaware that his New Jersey concealed carry permit was not valid in Florida.
The incident was sparked when security at Rollins College flagged a large ammo order, leading to a police investigation that uncovered the rifle, six magazines, a tactical vest, and other firearms-related items. Demetriades has been charged with possession of a weapon on school property and is currently facing disciplinary action from the college.
According to the college's statement, Demetriades cooperated fully with officials and law enforcement during the investigation. The school is now proceeding with a student conduct process, which will determine the next steps in this matter. Florida allows open carry, but Rollins College has a strict policy banning all weapons on campus.
