The French government has suspended e-commerce giant Shein's operations in the country, citing non-compliance with local laws and regulations. This move comes as the company has faced intense scrutiny over the online sale of childlike sex dolls. The decision was announced as Shein opened its first physical store in Paris, despite a heavy police presence. Shein, an Asian e-commerce giant with a global presence, has been under fire for selling the dolls, which have sparked a heated debate in France. The Paris prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into Shein, as well as its rival AliExpress, over the sale of the dolls. In a separate development, a man was arrested in southern France after ordering a childlike sex doll from China. The delivery company employees who discovered the doll alerted the police, leading to the man's arrest. The individual, who has a prior conviction for sexual assault, admitted to ordering the doll for sexual purposes. Shein has pledged to cooperate with French authorities and has announced a ban on all sex dolls on its platform. The company has also suspended sales from third-party vendors in France, citing unrelated reasons. An initial review by French ministers is set to take place within the next 48 hours to determine the extent of Shein's compliance with local laws.
