At 79, MV Kunhu Mohamed is a testament to determination and resilience. The Kerala native left his homeland with nothing but a lungi and a shirt, embarking on a perilous journey to Dubai in 1967. He sailed across the Arabian Sea on a wooden dhow, braving treacherous winds and seas for 40 days. After reaching Oman, Mohamed continued his journey on foot, walking for hours to the UAE border. He eventually hitched a ride on a truck carrying watermelons, arriving in Sharjah. There, he found work as a plumber's assistant, but his sweaty hands made the job impossible. Undeterred, Mohamed tried various jobs, from milking cows to making fish baskets. His dedication and hard work eventually caught the attention of his employers, who increased his salary. However, it was his stint as a driver for Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah, that marked a turning point in his life. Under the Sheikh's guidance, Mohamed learned the value of trust and responsibility. He started trading and eventually registered his company, Jaleel Traders, in 1972. The company grew into a successful conglomerate, employing 1,700 people today. Mohamed's leadership philosophy is simple: pay workers on time and never delay their salaries. He continues to visit his office daily, not to work but to meet his employees and share stories of his incredible journey. From a lone sailor to a Dubai tycoon, MV Kunhu Mohamed's story is an inspiration to millions.
