In response to a US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warning of a 'potentially hazardous situation,' multiple international airlines have canceled flights to Venezuela. On Saturday, Gol (Brazil), Avianca (Colombia), and TAP Air Portugal (Portugal) suspended their departures from Caracas, citing concerns over deteriorating security conditions and increased military activity in the area. According to Aeronautica Civil de Colombia, the potential risks of flying in the region are due to the security situation and military activity. TAP Air Portugal confirmed that it canceled its flights scheduled for Saturday and next Tuesday, citing information from the US aviation authorities about the uncertainty of safety conditions in Venezuelan airspace. Iberia (Spain) also canceled its flights to Caracas from Monday, pending further assessment of the situation. Notably, Copa Airlines and Wingo kept their flights departing from Maiquetia on Saturday. The US FAA warning mentioned the 'worsening security situation and heightened military activity' in or around Venezuela, posing potential risks for aircraft at all altitudes. Recent months have seen a significant American military buildup in the region, including the deployment of the US Navy's largest aircraft carrier and F-35 aircraft. Furthermore, a Latam Airlines flight to Bogota scheduled for Sunday has been canceled, according to Flightradar24.
