A devastating Christmas tragedy struck the French overseas region of Guadeloupe on Friday, when a vehicle drove into a crowd at a festive event in Sainte-Anne. At least 10 people lost their lives, with 19 victims in total, and three more in serious condition. According to eyewitnesses and a report by Radio Caraïbes Internationale Guadeloupe, the driver may have suffered a medical episode behind the wheel. However, this theory has yet to be confirmed by authorities. Emergency services, including firefighters, paramedics, and police officers, rushed to the scene, where the mayor of Sainte-Anne has activated a crisis team to assist the victims. This horrific incident serves as a painful reminder of similar attacks in recent years, including a Christmas car attack in Magdeburg, Germany, last year, which left two people dead and 68 injured. The driver in that case, a 50-year-old Saudi doctor, was arrested and later charged. An investigation into the Guadeloupe incident is currently underway, with the cause of the accident still unknown. The driver, who remained at the scene, is cooperating with authorities as they work to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
