Harvard Professor Arrested After Firing Pellet Gun Near Synagogue in Antisemitism Row

A visiting professor at Harvard Law School has been arrested by US immigration authorities after a pellet gun was fired outside a Massachusetts synagogue on the eve of Yom Kippur. Carlos Portugal Gouvea, a Brazilian citizen, was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Wednesday. Gouvea, an associate professor at the University of Sao Paulo Law School, had been teaching at Harvard during the fall semester on a temporary nonimmigrant visa. However, this visa was revoked by the US State Department following the incident, which the Trump administration described as an "anti-Semitic shooting incident.
