A shocking incident of violence has been reported from Damudya in Bangladesh, where a 50-year-old Hindu businessman, Khokon Chandra Das, was hacked and set on fire by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday evening. Das, who runs a medicine and mobile banking business in Keurbhanga Bazar, was attacked while returning home in an autorickshaw after closing his shop and collecting the day's sales proceeds. According to his wife, Seema Das, the attackers poured gasoline on his head and face before setting him ablaze. The incident occurred near Keurbhanga Bazar on the Damudya-Shariatpur road, where locals raised an alarm and chased the attackers away. Das was rescued by locals and taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, before being referred to Dhaka due to the severity of his injuries. This brutal assault on Das comes weeks after two other Hindu men were lynched in separate incidents in Bangladesh. The country's Hindu population, which accounts for approximately 7.95% of the total population, has been increasingly targeted by extremist groups in recent years. The Damudya Police Station has identified two men, Rabbi and Sohag, as suspects in the case. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but Das's wife claims that the family has no enemies in the area and no disputes with anyone. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and concern for the safety of the Hindu community in Bangladesh. The government has been urged to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
