Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched a scathing attack on Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, accusing him of deliberately igniting tensions with Afghanistan and pursuing 'disastrous' policies that have led to a surge in terrorism. In a social media post, Khan claimed that Munir's policies are driven by a desire to please Western powers, rather than prioritizing Pakistan's national interests. He also accused Munir of expelling Afghan refugees and carrying out drone strikes that have contributed to the rise in terrorism. Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023 in multiple cases, alleged that he and his wife are being subjected to 'mental torture' in solitary confinement, with their basic rights being denied. He also accused Munir of ordering the arrest of his sister, Noreen Niazi, for demanding to meet him. In a rare display of defiance, Khan praised Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for choosing 'resistance over compromise' in the face of what he described as an 'environment of repression'. Khan urged Afridi to continue to challenge the government and warned those who are threatening to impose Governor's rule in KP to do so immediately. The comments come amid growing concerns over Khan's health, with his sister, Uzma, saying that he was 'perfectly fine' but being subjected to 'mental torture' in solitary confinement.
