Bangladesh's opposition party, BNP, has expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his concerns over the health of former Prime Minister M Khaleda Zia. Modi expressed 'deep concern' over Zia's health, stating India's readiness to provide support. Zia, who has been on ventilation, remains in critical condition at a private hospital in Dhaka. The development comes as Zia's arch-rival, Sheikh Hasina, has taken refuge in India following a coup in July 2024. The rivalry between the two former leaders has shaped Bangladesh's politics for decades. Meanwhile, Zia's son, Tarique Rahman, is preparing to return home from self-exile in London. Security has been heightened around the hospital, with a specialist medical team from China joining efforts to treat Zia. Police have erected barricades to regulate patients' movement and reinforce Zia's security. Zia was admitted to the hospital on November 23 after developing a chest infection, affecting her heart and lungs. Her condition has since deteriorated, with BNP leaders seeking prayers from the nation for her recovery. Local and international medical specialists are involved in her treatment.
