RAMALLAH, West Bank - A surge of settler attacks has gripped the occupied West Bank, with masked Israeli civilians unleashing a wave of violence on Tuesday. According to the Israeli military and a Palestinian official, the settlers targeted Palestinians, torching dairy trucks, farmland, and Bedouin structures, leaving four people injured. The Israeli army rushed to the scenes in Beit Lid and Deir Sharaf, dispersing the confrontation after dozens of settlers attacked Palestinians and set fire to property. The Palestinian Red Crescent treated three people who were beaten with sticks and stones, while Israeli police arrested four Israeli suspects for questioning. This latest incident marks a disturbing trend: in October, settlers staged at least 264 attacks on Palestinians, the highest monthly tally since the UN began tracking incidents in 2006. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has expressed concern over the escalating violence. The West Bank, home to 2.7 million Palestinians, remains a contentious region. Israeli settlements have expanded rapidly, fragmenting the land and fueling tensions. The international community, including the United Nations and most countries, regards settlements as illegal under international law. Israel disputes this, citing biblical ties to the land and security concerns. As the situation continues to deteriorate, the future of a potential Palestinian state existing alongside Israel hangs in the balance. With around half a million Israeli settlers living in the West Bank, the stakes are high, and the need for a peaceful resolution has never been more pressing.
