Jaishankar Seeks Global Cooperation on Maritime Security at G7 Meet

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the need for global cooperation on maritime security during a recent G7 meeting in Canada. As part of the Indo-Pacific cooperation, Jaishankar outlined India's vision for a secure and resilient maritime domain. He called for 'trusted and diversified maritime links' and highlighted the importance of protecting critical maritime infrastructure from threats such as piracy and smuggling. Jaishankar also stressed the need for deeper international collaboration to tackle maritime challenges. Jaishankar emphasized India's role as a 'first responder in the maritime domain' and its commitment to strengthening humanitarian assistance and disaster relief partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. He also reaffirmed India's commitment to a rules-based maritime order, citing the importance of upholding the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The meeting, which focused on ensuring safe and open waterways vital to global trade and economic stability, brought together foreign ministers from G7 nations and partner countries. Jaishankar also met with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan to discuss bilateral ties, regional hotspots, connectivity, and energy.
