Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, came under intense attack on Friday morning, with multiple districts targeted and widespread damage reported. At least one person was killed and 24 others injured, including a pregnant woman and a 10-year-old boy. The assault, described as a 'massive enemy attack' by Kyiv's mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, involved missiles and drones targeting critical infrastructure, including residential buildings and energy facilities. Air defense forces were activated in response, and Ukrainian emergency services rescued over 40 people from fires and destruction. The attack comes as Western allies continue to pressure Russia, with Canada imposing new sanctions and the G7 calling for an immediate ceasefire. The European Commission is also considering providing Ukraine with a loan for budgetary and military support. The conflict has been ongoing for almost four years, with both sides entrenched and Moscow rejecting ceasefire calls. Russia's latest strikes on energy infrastructure have raised concerns about heating outages ahead of the winter months, with Ukraine stepping up attacks on Russian infrastructure in response. In a separate incident, Russia downed over 200 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 66 over the Krasnodar Krai region. A fire broke out at the Sheskharis oil refinery in Novorossiysk, one of the largest in Russia, but was brought under control. A civilian vessel was also damaged, with three crew members injured and hospitalized.
