Former Harvard University President Larry Summers has announced his decision to step back from public duties in the wake of a scandal surrounding his close relationship with the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The revelation of Epstein files has exposed years of correspondence between the two, including sexist comments and a request for romantic advice from the convicted sex offender. Summers, who served as US Secretary of the Treasury from 1999 to 2001 and as Harvard President from 2001 to 2006, expressed deep shame and regret over his actions, stating that he takes full responsibility for continuing to communicate with Epstein despite knowing about his sex offenses involving minors. "I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused," Summers said. "While I will continue to fulfill my teaching obligations, I will be stepping back from public commitments as part of my effort to rebuild trust and repair relationships.
