A 19-year-old driver, Jose Gutierrez, is facing two counts of open murder and other charges after a 12-car crash in Las Vegas. The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 3:30 pm at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard. Gutierrez, who was speeding in his Infiniti, accelerated rapidly from 9mph to 71mph in just five seconds, causing a chain reaction crash. Two people, Adilene Duran Rincon, 20, who was three months pregnant, and Edward Garcia, 38, lost their lives in the crash. Rincon was Gutierrez's girlfriend, and the car was registered to her mother. According to reports, Gutierrez did not remember the crash and claimed he had not consumed any substances before driving. However, a marijuana vape pen was found in his pocket, and his blood test revealed trace amounts of cannabinoids. There was also fentanyl in his system, but officials couldn't rule out if it was given to him in the hospital. The Clark County District Attorney believes Gutierrez's actions were intentional, citing a video of the incident and evidence that he was not impaired by alcohol or drugs. Gutierrez was previously cited for speeding in October and had also been arrested in April for a separate incident. He had completed an impulse control counseling program in September. This is a developing story, and further details will be added as more information becomes available.
