A tragic Christmas Day turned deadly in Lindenhurst, Long Island, when a 23-year-old CVS employee was fatally stabbed. Edeedson 'Eddy' Ciné Jr., 23, was working a holiday shift when he was stabbed in the chest just before 7 pm local time. Emergency responders rushed Ciné to Good Samaritan University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, identified as John Pilaccio, 43, of Lindenhurst, fled the scene on foot but was arrested shortly after the attack. Surveillance footage from both inside and outside the CVS store helped identify Pilaccio as the person of interest. However, delays in receiving the internal video from CVS initially hindered the investigation. Suffolk County authorities criticized CVS corporate for not providing the footage promptly, calling the delay 'shocking and appalling.' CVS later explained that the delay was due to formatting requirements, which they eventually met. Pilaccio is being held at the Suffolk County Police Department's Third Precinct pending arraignment and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. Authorities have not confirmed whether Pilaccio and Ciné knew each other prior to the incident. The case highlights the importance of timely cooperation between law enforcement and businesses in investigations.
