A widespread power outage struck multiple cities in South Dakota and Wyoming on Thursday, leaving thousands of residents without electricity. The South Dakota Department of Transportation confirmed the outage, which affected Rapid City and several surrounding areas in western South Dakota. In Wyoming, the outage had a significant impact, with over 55,000 homes in Casper, Douglas, Glendo, Riverton, Buffalo, and Gillette reported to be without power. The situation is equally dire in South Dakota, where thousands of homes have been left in the dark. According to a live map of reported outages, Wyoming is the most affected region, with over 94,000 people without power. In South Dakota, more than 37,000 residents are without electricity. The outages are concentrated in the western part of South Dakota and the northern part of Wyoming. In Wyoming, Natrona County has reported the largest number of outages, with 43,178 customers affected. Other counties, including Campbell, Sheridan, and Converse, have also seen significant power outages. In South Dakota, Pennington County has reported the most outages, with 19,144 customers without power. Lawrence and Meade counties have also seen significant power outages, with 8,478 and 6,296 customers affected, respectively.
