Two Mint Hill police officers were critically injured after being shot above the neck. The suspect, Tjamel Ali Hamlin II, a 36-year-old North Carolina resident, was killed in the ensuing exchange. Despite their severe injuries, both officers have made a remarkable recovery and are now back home with their families.
According to the Mint Hill Police Department, the incident began when officers responded to a child custody exchange around 11 a.m. Hamlin allegedly produced a firearm and opened fire on the officers, sparking a brief but intense shootout. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) assisting the Mint Hill Police Department.
The department has expressed gratitude for the officers' swift recovery and is respecting their families' privacy during this time. An internal affairs inquiry is also being conducted as part of standard protocol. The identities of the injured officers have not been disclosed to protect their anonymity.
