Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a crucial bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Sunday afternoon in Johannesburg, on the sidelines of the G20 leaders' summit. The meeting aims to strengthen future collaboration between the two nations, following a significant improvement in their relations since Carney took office in March. According to Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, the two leaders will discuss the comprehensive roadmap issued in October, which marked a breakthrough in their engagement. This meeting comes a day after India, Canada, and Australia announced a trilateral cooperation on critical and emerging technologies, the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation Partnership. The partnership is expected to deepen collaboration in emerging technologies, support clean energy and mass adoption of AI, and unlock new research opportunities. Anand dismissed any suggestion of a link between the meeting and the ongoing Khalistan Referendum in Ottawa, stating that the bilateral has been planned for some time. India and Canada have made significant progress in their relations since Carney's assumption of office. The two countries have reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation, with Canada's Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, describing India as a 'key partner' during his recent visit. This meeting is a significant step towards resetting their relationship, which had faced challenges under the previous Trudeau administration.
