New York City is commemorating a remarkable 250 years of military service in the United States with its 106th annual Veterans Day Parade. The event will honor three trailblazing grand marshals from the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Among them is Retired Navy Capt. Sunita "Suni" Williams, a space veteran who spent an extended period in space. According to Mark Otto, executive director of the United War Veterans Council, the 250th anniversary ties back to the nation's founding, the start of the Revolutionary War. "This is when America was just a dream, and it was the military branches that won our freedom," he said. Thousands of veterans, volunteers, and international allies from France, Germany, and other nations will participate in the celebration, featuring over 150 vehicles and 20,000 marchers. Representation will also be seen from veterans who have served in conflicts since World War II. The event will include performances by the 16-piece American Expeditionary Forces Headquarters marching band and appearances by distinguished individuals like Clinton Romesha and Stephen Peck. The parade will begin at 12:30 pm in the Flatiron District and progress north to 47th Street. You can catch the live broadcast on the FOX LOCAL app and Fox 5 NY.
