In a tense moment, Romania's air force scrambled two German Eurofighter Typhoons and two Romanian F-16 fighter jets early Wednesday after an attack drone breached the country's airspace. The incident occurred as Russia launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine, with over 470 drones and 48 missiles being fired, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The drone, which was first detected entering Romania and flying near the border with Ukraine, crossed back into Ukrainian territory, then into Moldova, before reentering Romanian airspace. The Romanian Air Force lost radar contact with the drone near the town of Foltești in Galați County. According to the Romanian Defence Ministry, the drone reappeared intermittently on radar for approximately 12 minutes amidst Russian air strikes near the border. Fortunately, no reports of aircraft crashes or damage have been made. This latest development comes as Russia escalates its assault on Ukraine, with President Zelensky describing the overnight attacks as one of the most intense in recent weeks.
