San Diego police officers were ambushed during a welfare check in Normal Heights on December 22, prompting a massive response from law enforcement. According to a social media post by the San Diego Police Department, officers were shot at while responding to a mental health-related call for service in the 4400 block of 40th Street. Fortunately, no officers were injured. A SWAT team was deployed to assist in resolving the situation, and multiple streets around the residence were blocked off. The public has been urged to avoid the area as the investigation continues. This incident comes on the heels of another shooting in San Diego on Sunday, which left one man dead near the Imperial Beach pier. The San Diego Police Department is also investigating that incident, which occurred during an event with a large crowd. In that case, a man was shot and killed by deputies after producing a knife and advancing towards them. The San Diego Police Department has launched an investigation into both incidents, with the help of the 2022 Countywide Memorandum of Agreement, signed by 17 law enforcement agencies. The agreement aims to ensure transparency and accountability in police investigations.
