A massive search effort by authorities and volunteers was launched in San Antonio after 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos vanished on foot on Christmas Eve. Her body was discovered in a field near her home, prompting an investigation. In a news conference, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar revealed that the body was found on December 29, between 4:40 pm and 4:45 pm. After conducting an autopsy, the medical examiner confirmed the identity of the deceased as Olmos, ruling her death a suicide. Authorities reported that a firearm, which belonged to a relative, was missing and later found near the body. The investigation had initially found no signs of foul play, but indicators were inconsistent with possible self-harm. A joint team of sheriff's deputies and FBI agents searched the area, discovering the body in tall grass near a landscaping business just a few hundred yards from Olmos' home.
