A woman living in Tokyo has shared a harrowing account of the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on Monday evening. Describing the experience in Hindi, she said the quake was so intense that it felt like her life was slipping away. She then pointed out her residential complex, where surprisingly, no one else had stepped outside. Locals, she explained, have confidence in the strength of their buildings and believe they will remain safe during strong quakes. The earthquake triggered a tsunami warning in northern Japan, with waves recorded in several coastal towns. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, tsunami waves hit the towns of Urakawa in Hokkaido prefecture and Mutsu Ogawara in Aomori prefecture. Waves reached up to 50 centimeters in Kuji port and other coastal communities. Several people were injured as buildings shook, with multiple injuries reported at a hotel in Hachinohe, Aomori prefecture. The United States Geological Survey stated that the quake was recorded at a depth of 53.1 kilometers, with the epicenter located 73 kilometers east northeast of Misawa in northern Japan. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has set up an emergency task force to assess the damage and prioritize public safety. East Japan Railway suspended train services as a precaution. Japan, situated on the Ring of Fire, is one of the most seismically active nations, having experienced nearly 20 per cent of the world's major earthquakes. This incident follows a series of strong global quakes, including an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia's Kamchatka region in July. Japan continues to remain vigilant, drawing lessons from the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck the country, killing thousands and causing widespread destruction.
