US President Donald Trump has hit back at Democrats after a batch of emails from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were released, referencing the President. Trump took to Truth Social, calling the Democrats' efforts to revive the Epstein case a 'hoax' aimed at deflecting attention from their handling of the government shutdown. He emphasized that 'only very bad or stupid Republicans' would fall for their trap, accusing Democrats of trying to 'smear' him. Trump also criticized the Democrats for their handling of the government shutdown, which he claimed cost the country $1.5 trillion. The released documents, obtained by the House Oversight Committee, include an email from Epstein to a journalist in 2019, claiming Trump 'knew about the girls.' Another email from 2011 mentions Trump spending hours at Epstein's home with a sex trafficking victim. However, the White House has disputed the significance of these emails, saying they are part of a 'tired CON JOB' to smear the President. They pointed out that a victim, later identified as Virginia Giuffre, had previously stated that Trump was a 'gentleman' and that she didn't witness any wrongdoing. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also accused Democrats of 'selectively leaking emails' to create a 'fake narrative' against Trump. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's accomplice, had also told the Department of Justice that she had not witnessed any sexually inappropriate interactions involving Trump. The controversy comes as the House Oversight Committee continues to investigate the Epstein case, with Democrats seeking to hold Trump accountable for his alleged ties to the convicted sex offender.
